Monday, July 22

Biology grad student to define DNA response missing link​

Ciara McKnight, a graduate student in the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology, will give the UMMC Department of Cell and Molecular Biology presentation, "Missing Link: Defining the Role of H1 Linker Histones in DNA Damage Response," at 3 p.m. on Monday, July 22, in classroom 3A.

Wednesday, July 24

Sanderson Chair to offer cultural, social, political perspective​

Dr. Daniel Jones, Sanderson Chair in Obesity, Metabolic Diseases and Nutrition, director of Clinical and Population Science at the Mississippi Center for Obesity Research and former vice chancellor for health affairs at UMMC, will give the UMMC Department of Physiology presentation, "Obesity in the USA: A Cultural, Social, Political (and Cynical) Perspective," from noon-1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24, in room CW308 of the Classroom Wing.

Ruckdeschel to host CCRI director's meetings

Dr. John Ruckdeschel, UMMC Cancer Center and Research Institute director, will host the quarterly Cancer Center and Research Institute Director’s Meetings on Wednesday, July 24.

The first meeting will take place from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in room CW106 of the Classroom Wing and the second will take place from 4-5 p.m. in room MK1109 at the Jackson Medical Mall.

All CCRI members and cancer researchers and all UMMC employees who work with cancer patients are invited. The meetings will include an overview of CCRI objectives, an update on progress toward those objectives and a question-and-answer session.

Surgery chief to lead town hall on liver transplant selection

​Dr. Christopher Anderson, chief of the UMMC Department of Surgery and director of University Transplant, will give the Department of Surgery Grand Rounds Conference, "Selection of Candidates for Liver Transplant - Town Hall Discussion," from noon-1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31, in classroom R354 (upper amphitheatre) and again from 7:30-8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1, in room N318 (3A).

USC faculty to cover brain pericytes, blood barrier, Alzheimer's

Dr. Amy R. Nelson of the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine, Los Angeles, will give the UMMC Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology Seminar Series presentation, "Brain Pericytes, Blood-brain Barrier and Their Dysfunction in Alzheimer's Disease," at noon on Monday, Aug. 5, in room 6A.

WFU faculty to cover adolescent weight program effectiveness

​Dr. Justin B. Moore, associate professor of family and community medicine in the Department of Epidemiology and Prevention and the Department of Implementation Science at the Wake Forest School of Medicine, will give the Grand Rounds presentation, “Innovative Approaches to Improve the Effectiveness of Clinical Weight Programs for Adolescents with Obesity,” at noon on Thursday, Aug. 8, in room A035 in the School of Nursing building.

The presentation is sponsored by the Mississippi Center for Obesity Research, the Mississippi Center for Clinical and Translational Research and the Cardiorenal and Metabolic Diseases Research Center.
